Viareggio
Viareggio, located in the heart of Versilia, is one of the best known and best loved towns in the region. Famous above all for its historic Carnival, which attracts thousands of visitors every year, the town turns into a huge open-air stage between February and March: during this period, the streets are filled with allegorical floats, colourful masks and festivities involving both locals and tourists.
One of the main attractions of the Viareggio Carnival is the parade of allegorical floats, made with great skill and creativity by talented local artisans, who are involved in the creation of these majestic works throughout the year. These floats are often of imposing dimensions and satirically represent characters and themes of current affairs, politics and society, providing the public with moments of fun and reflection.
However, Viareggio is not only Carnival: the town offers, in fact, wide beaches of fine sand, ideal for days of relaxation and fun. The crystal-clear sea and well-organised bathing facilities make Viareggio a perfect destination for families, couples and groups of friends looking for an unforgettable summer holiday.
The seaside promenade is another distinctive feature of Viareggio: this charming pedestrian street, lined with palm trees and characterised by elegant Art Nouveau buildings, offers a wide choice of shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Strolling along the promenade, perhaps enjoying a delicious homemade ice cream, is a pleasant and relaxing experience, allowing you to immerse yourself in the typical Versilia atmosphere.
Viareggio is also a city rich in culture and art, with numerous museums and art galleries hosting permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, offering visitors the opportunity to discover the artistic and historical heritage of the city and the surrounding region.
